Classes
Due to time constraints, we will probably not offer any classes in 2007 or 2008. We hope to offer one or two classes in 2009. If and when a class is scheduled, a timely announcement will be placed on the home page of this website, under the heading “Updates.”
The following information is offered for your information, and explains the format that we use for classes, when we are able to teach them.
Class Content
The classes provide the following: Saturday features a very brief verbal review of the FSR techniques described in the book Recovery from Parkinson's, discussion of the "Updates" material (material that is on this website's Updates Page, material that will be included in the next revision of the Practitioner's Handbook), hands-on practice time on each other, and question and answer time. The Saturday class is oriented towards health practitioners.
The Sunday class is oriented towards the people with Parkinson's. They each get a turn to describe their own symptoms, their experiences with Parkinson's, and demonstrate for the benefit of the health practitioners their walk, tremor, or any aspect of their physical condition that might be helpful for students to observe. Also on Sunday, the practitioners who have spend the previous day practicing FSR on each other will get to practice on the people with Parkinson's. This opportunity to practice on many different people with Parkinson's is especially helpful. There is also time for questions and answers on Sunday.
General Information
Both patients and practitioners may attend both classes. The classes are free for people with Parkinson's. The class fee covers both days of class. Approval for Continuing Education credits from the California Acupuncture Board for the classes is pending.
It will be assumed that all participants at the classes have read Recovery From Parkinson's Disease. There will NOT be discussion about the medication; this deeply complex subject is covered in extreme thoroughness in the book Medications of Parkinson's Disease, or, Once Upon A Pill, available for free at this website.
Please note, patients who are taking or have taken Parkinson's medications are not eligible to receive hands-on therapy during the class. An explanation of this policy is found in the book, Medications of Parkinson's.
There may be time available for a one-hour private treatment with the class teacher either the Friday before or the Monday after the class. To find out if appointments are available, please email the contact person for that class; the contact person for each class is listed below in the class information section.
Class size is limited and classes often fill quickly. For more information about the classes and to sign up for a class, please write to the email address listed as the contact for that class.
